Your Digital Safety at Risk: PTA Issues Scam Warning

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned citizens about a surge in phishing scams involving fraudsters impersonating PTA officials to steal personal information.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a critical warning to the public about a surge in phishing scams involving individuals posing as PTA officials to extract personal information.

In its advisory, the PTA emphasized that it never contacts individuals via phone, email, or text to request sensitive details such as passwords, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), or online credentials. “Stay alert — PTA will NEVER ask for your personal information, passwords, or OTPs through calls, emails, or messages. Stay safe and vigilant,” the authority stated.

The PTA urged citizens to be extremely cautious of fake calls, messages, and emails that attempt to deceive them into revealing private information. People are strongly advised not to click on suspicious links or share

To help tackle these scams, the PTA has shared official channels for reporting personal data with unknown sources:

  • To block scam numbers: Call PTA toll-free at 0800-55055

  • For investigations: Contact the FIA at 1991

  • For financial frauds: Reach the State Bank of Pakistan at (021) 111-723-273

The authority reiterated the importance of safeguarding personal data and urged the public to report any suspicious activity promptly to aid in the fight against cybercrime.
