New Baluchistan CM to reform police force

While addressing a press conference in Chief Minister Secretariat, the new Chief Minister Baluchistan Abdul Quddus Bizenjo said that the police force is being upgraded and reformed. He commended the efforts of the police force in defending the lives and properties of the citizens, and lauded their sacrifices for the nation. CM Bizenjo was accompanied by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and former CM Punjab Pervez Illahi.

He didn’t elaborate any further on the actual reforms that are being taken place. The CM Baluchistan vowed to solve the problems of the people quickly but decided not to criticize past governments. “We have worked tirelessly to form a government and will make sure that it is successful. We will perform our duties according to our best abilities for solving people’s problems”, he said.

The Chief Minister has a big challenge ahead of him since the frequency of the attacks are ever increasing and groups from across the border in Afghanistan are claiming the responsibility.

Bizenjo promised to be active and functional as the CM. He had earlier approach the opposition leadership to thank them for their support and seek guidance from them for the future. Attacks on security forces are on a rise in Baluchistan, it appears to be an attempt to break the spirit of the security forces. A police constable, Naseer Ahmad, was gunned down by unidentified men in Raisani Road Quetta on Tuesday.

At least four attacks took place in Baluchistan in the past two weeks and three of them were in Quetta alone. Last week, a suicide bomber blew himself outside the Baluchistan Parliament, killing seven people including five security officers. On January 1st, three security officials were injured in militant attacks in Chaman. Last year, DIG Hamid Shakeel and two other officials embraced martyrdom in a suicide attack.

The Chief Minister has a big challenge ahead of him since the frequency of the attacks are ever increasing and groups from across the border in Afghanistan are claiming the responsibility. A consolidated effort is needed to reform the police department and fight the menace of terrorism.
