Melbourne offers to host Test match between India and Pakistan

The two teams met each other on October 23rd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground amid 90,000 spectators. MCC Chief Executive Stuart Fox said that the atmosphere during the match was electrifying and that there will be no problem filling the stadium for a Test match.

Melbourne Cricket Ground has offered to host a five-day Test Match between India and Pakistan. Both countries have not played each other in a bilateral series since 2007. Since then the team has only been playing each other in the ICC events.

The two teams met each other on October 23rd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground amid 90,000 spectators. MCC Chief Executive Stuart Fox said that the atmosphere during the match was electrifying and that there will be no problem filling the stadium for a Test match.

“The atmosphere for that game, I’ve never felt anything like it,” Fox told radio station SEN. “The noise after every ball was phenomenal. Three (tests) in a row would be lovely at the MCG, you’d fill it every time.

“We’ve taken that up with Cricket Australia. I know the (Victoria) government has as well. It’s enormously complicated from what I can understand, amongst a really busy schedule. So I think that’s probably the greater challenge.”

He said he is hopeful Australia will keep pushing the proposal with the ICC. “When you do see some of the stadiums around the world unoccupied, I think it would be much better to have a full house and that atmosphere and celebrating the game with full houses,” Fox added.

Currently, India and Pakistan are in a row over visiting each other for the next ICC events.

India also denied visas to the Pakistan Blind Cricket Team for the Blind Cricket World Cup allegedly on political grounds.

Pakistan Cricket Board issued a statement that updated regarding the development. The visas of the Pakistan Cricket Team have been denied for the ongoing tournament from Dec 5 to Dec 17th. “This unfortunate incident has left the Pakistan blind cricket team in the lurch,” said PCB. The statement added that the Pakistan Blind Cricket Team was the runners-up in 2012 and 2017.

Earlier, Indian Express had reported that Pakistan Blind Cricket Team would be granted a visa to participate in the tournament. The match between India and Pakistan was scheduled for Wednesday 7th December 2022.
