‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ Dominates Weekend Box Office with Record-Breaking Debut

John Wick: Chapter 4 has proven to be a massive success, with a franchise-best opening of $73.5 million. This marks the sixth-highest opening in Lionsgate’s history and the highest for any film outside of The Hunger Games and Twilight. The film has also earned $64 million internationally, bringing its total to $137 million. With the franchise’s consistency in terms of box office multiples, it is expected to cross the $200 million mark soon. Meanwhile, Shazam! Fury of the Gods has suffered a disastrous drop, falling nearly 68% from its opening weekend to only earn $9.7 million in its second weekend. It is the first March release ever to open to $30 million and then fall below $10 million in its second weekend.

Scream VI continues to perform well, on track to be the highest-grossing film in the franchise with a total of nearly $90 million. Creed III has also been successful, earning over $140 million and waiting for the green light on a fourth installment. Jesus Revolution and Avatar: The Way of Water continue to add to their profit margins, while 65, Cocaine Bear, and Champions struggle to turn a profit.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves hopes to conjure up a big debut, arriving in theaters with an 89% approval rating and a $151 million budget. It remains to be seen if it can dethrone John Wick as word-of-mouth takes hold or if it will have enough to compete with The Super Mario Bros. Movie during Easter weekend.
