A son’s legacy of love: Jack Rigby’s mission for Scotty’s Little Soldiers

Jack Rigby, son of murdered soldier Lee Rigby, raises £40k+ for bereaved forces children, honouring his father's memory.

In a remarkable display of resilience and compassion, 12-year-old Jack Rigby, the son of murdered soldier Lee Rigby, has embarked on a heartfelt mission to help other bereaved forces children. Despite being just two years old when his father was tragically killed by Islamist extremists, Jack has become an inspiration to many by raising over £40,000 for the Scotty’s Little Soldiers charity. Through his extraordinary efforts, he aims to honour his father’s memory while providing support and comfort to those who have experienced similar losses.

A Father’s Legacy Lives On

The harrowing events of May 22, 2013, forever changed Jack Rigby’s life. His father, Fusilier Lee Rigby, was brutally murdered by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale in a senseless act of violence outside Woolwich Barracks. Despite the immense pain and loss, Jack has found strength in his father’s memory. By raising funds for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, he seeks to honour the selflessness and sacrifice that his father embodied as a soldier, ensuring that his legacy lives on through acts of kindness and support.

Running for a Cause

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of his father’s passing, Jack Rigby challenged himself to run a marathon distance of 26.2 miles throughout the month. Through his initiative, aptly named the Scotty’s May Marathon, Jack aimed to raise £1,000 for each year his father had been gone. However, his incredible determination and the generosity of supporters far exceeded expectations. Jack has already surpassed his initial £10,000 target, with the funds going towards helping bereaved children and young people who have lost a parent in the British armed forces.

Providing Support and Empathy

Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a tri-service charity dedicated to assisting children and young adults up to the age of 25 who have experienced the loss of a parent serving in the British armed forces. Founded by Nikki Scott in honour of her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, the organisation offers comprehensive support, including emotional assistance, educational grants, and memorable experiences for these grieving families. Jack Rigby’s commitment to raising funds for Scotty’s Little Soldiers amplifies their crucial work, ensuring that bereaved children across the country receive the care and understanding they need during such difficult times.
