Aafia Siddiqui attacked in prison, calls for public support

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui wants the public's help regarding her case as she is not safe in prison anymore. Her lawyer recently revealed that an inmate attacked Dr. Aafia by smashing a coffee mug on her face.

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist calls for public support after facing assault in Texas prison. Dr. Aafia’s lawyer Marwa Elbially recently told the media that an inmate violently attacked Dr Aafia last month.

The inmate smashed a coffee mug filled with scalding hot liquid into Dr. Aafia’s face. The attack caused Aafia Siddiqui to fall to the ground, and she was unable to get up. As a result, she had to be taken out of the cell in a wheelchair.

Dr. Aafia suffered severe burns around her eyes. The coffee mug cut her face, leaving an approximately 3-inch scar near her left eye. Her lawyer also informed that Dr. Aafia had bruises on her right arm and legs.

The reason for the inmate attacking Dr Aafia Siddiqui is unclear, however, her lawyer states that the inmate had been harassing her for some time.

The attack left Dr. Aafia worried for her safety and she requests the public to support her case.

“The fact that I’m not blind is a miracle from Allah,” Dr. Aafia told her lawyer, Marwa Elbially who has been paying her visits since January 2021.

Dr. Aafia is currently placed in solitary confinement.

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was an MIT graduate, allegedly discovered from Afghanistan after being missing for five years. The US claims that an interrogation revealed that she stole a gun and attempted to shoot a US soldier in Afghanistan.

Heavy allegations of working for Al Qaeda were leveled against her, and in September 2010, a New York court sentenced Dr. Aafia to a prison sentence of 86 years.

Reaction to Aafia Siddiqui’s case

After news broke out of the attack on Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Twitter rallied in support of her once again. Therefore, many are criticizing the US government’s “double standards.”
