Black Day as amended NAB law ends accountability – Imran Khan

In a series of tweets, PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan accused the incumbent government of ending accountability with the amended NAB law.

PTI leaders are observing today as Black Day due to amendments in the National Accountability Bill (NAB). According to PTI, with the amended NAB law, the incumbent government has given itself an NRO 2.

To clarify, the NAB amendments will be enforced from today. The incumbent government, without the endorsement of President Dr. Arif Alvi, approved the amendments in the National Assembly.

In short, after fresh amendments, the National Accountability Bureau will have limited powers. Pertinent to mention, the incumbent government is strictly against the bureau. In fact, PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, on multiple occasions, called to dissolve the bureau. Last month, the incumbent government, led by PML-N, removed NAB Chairman Justice Retired Javed Iqbal.

As a result, PTI is active and calling today a Black Day in Pakistan’s history. PTI leaders, including Chairman Imran Khan, have taken to social media to protest against the NAB amendments coming into effect today.

Imran Khan slams government

In a series of tweets, PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan accused the incumbent government of ending accountability with the amended NAB law.

“Today is Black Day in Pak’s history when Imported govt of crooks amended NAB law comes in ending accountability. The entire economy and political system of Pakistan was derailed thru US-backed regime change conspiracy simply to give this cabal of crooks another NRO. PMLN’s Dastgir confirmed this,” Imran Khan tweeted.

To clarify, PML-N leader and Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir in an interview had claimed that the then Opposition ousted Imran Khan because of his plan to extend his rule by having political opponents disqualified by 2022.

“At a time when our economy had stabilised and was moving towards sustainable growth of 6%, the conspirators chose to destabilise Pakistan by sending economy into a tailspin and dropping a price bomb on our people – just to give these criminals NRO2,” he added.

Not holding back, Imran Khan said Pakistan is heading towards destruction as the amended NAB law will protect “white-collar criminals” from being accountable for corruption. Many federal ministers, including the Prime Minister, have corruption charges lodged against them.

“Our Prophet PBUH had said societies are destroyed when the poor are jailed while the rich are not held accountable. Today, with this one amended NAB law we are heading towards destruction by removing white-collar criminals from accountability,” Imran Khan said.

“Rs 1100 bn of the Rs 1200 bn that was being investigated by NAB will now be out of NAB’s jurisdiction, giving this criminal mafia their NRO2. History will neither forget nor forgive all those who were part of & enabled this conspiracy against Pakistan to succeed,” he added.
