Bookstores dedicate special section for PM Imran recommendations, demand for Turkish bestseller spikes

Not just Siddiqui, but several people had shown interest in the novels, books, and serials recommended by Khan.

Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui last Sunday said that he will be reading the Turkish bestselling novel, 40 Rules of Love, following the recommendation of Prime Minister Imran Khan to read the book earlier this month.

“On my list for next read ‘The 40 Rules of Love.’ Thank you for the recommendation @ImranKhanPTI. Great reason to finally pick it up from my bookshelf where it’s been lying for months! Hope it inspires me as much!,” wrote Siddiqui in his tweet.

His tweet followed the Instagram post of Prime Minister Imran Khan last week in which he had recommended the youth to read the 40 Rules of Love by author Elif Shafak.

Not just Siddiqui, but several people had shown interest in the novels, books, and serials recommended by Khan. According to social media users, the sales of the Turkish novel has picked up since Khan recommended it last week.

His suggestion follows his attempt to bring the youth closer to Islamic faith. The premier voiced his views regarding the novel in an Instagram post last week. He wrote: “This October I suggest our youth to read The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak.”

“An inspirational book about divine love, Sufism, Rumi and his Murshid Shams Tabriz. I read it a few years back and was deeply inspired,” added Khan.

The novel is based on the themes of divine love, spirituality and Sufism, popular in the Pakistani culture. The story follows the tale of affection, respect and love between Maulana Jalal-ud-din Rumi and his companion, Shams of Tabriz. The author describes the 40 rules of divine love in the novel.
