Pakistani movie ‘Cake’ and a biopic movie ‘Salam’ on Pakistani scientist Abdus Salam won awards at South Asian Film Festival of Montreal. ‘Cake’ won Best Feature Fiction while Salam won the ‘Best Documentary Award’. The festival announced the news on Facebook.
“Many thanks to you the audience who come out to support the festival and its films!” the post read.
“For audience favorite best feature, the winner is CAKE The Film, the Oscar nominee from Pakistan. For audience favorite Best Documentary Feature the winner is SALAM – the film about the first Pakistani ****** Nobel Laureate,” it further stated.

The movie ‘Cake’ starring Aamina Sheikh and Sanam Saeed has also been selected by the Pakistan Academy Selection Committee for Oscar Award. The movie will represent Pakistan in the Best Foreign Language Movie category.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, who headed the committee, at the occasion, said “We are excited to continue the tradition of sending films from Pakistan in the foreign language category of the academy awards! Each year, the submissions become stronger and we are keeping our fingers crossed that one of these days we will come away with a golden statue.”
The cake became the first Pakistani movie to be screened at the UK Asian Film Festival even before its release. Asim Abbasi won the award for Best Director for his directorial debut ‘Cake’ at the UK Asian Film Festival.

On the other hand, a 75-minutes biopic documentary is shot after a rigorous research of 14 years including interviews with his colleagues, friends, and co-workers that covered their observations and interviews. The documentary features every aspect of his life, from being a spectacular scientist of Pakistan to become a receiver of the Noble Peace Prize.
