Dawoodi Bohra community honors tradition of Muharram in Dubai

Dubai gathers 75,000 Dawoodi Bohra Muslims to solemnly mark Muharram, fostering peace and unity among attendees.

In a remarkable display of unity and devotion, the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community has gathered in Dubai to commemorate Ashara Mubaraka, the annual Muharram congregations. This ten-day period, starting from the Islamic Hijri New Year, holds deep significance for the community, and this year’s event has drawn an astounding number of participants, with 75,000 members attending from across the world, including 20,000 from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The occasion marks a momentous milestone as it returns to Dubai after 20 years. The UAE has been at the forefront of promoting tolerance, coexistence, and human brotherhood, and this commitment is exemplified by the presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of State for Tolerance and Coexistence of UAE, at the Masjid Al Burhani in Qusais to meet with the Dawoodi Bohra community leader Sultan Al Bohra Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. Also present on the occasion was Sheikh Ali Al Hashimi, Religious Advisor to the President of the UAE. Sheikh Nahyan reiterated the UAE’s dedication to conveying its humanitarian mission based on tolerance and peace to the world, embracing cultural and religious diversity on its land.

Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the community’s leader, delivers a series of sermons on a central theme during the congregations, fostering a sense of spiritual unity among the participants.

Dawoodi Bohras in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman also have access to live telecasts, allowing them to connect with their global community.
