On Friday, an explosion occurred near the Provincial Election Commission office in Karachi, prompting a swift response from law enforcement authorities. The explosives, concealed inside a bag left on the side of a footpath, resulted in a minor detonation, fortunately causing no significant damage or casualties.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Sajid Saduzai revealed that the situation unfolded when a young man cleaning a car noticed the suspicious bag and promptly moved it to the curb. Despite the bomb being assembled from materials found inside a shopper, authorities are scrutinizing CCTV footage to unravel details and ascertain whether the election commission office was the intended target.
As a precautionary measure, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) swiftly arrived at the scene, underlining the gravity of the situation and the ongoing security challenges faced by the city. SSP Saduzai expressed concern about the incident, speculating that the blast might be part of a larger conspiracy aimed at instilling fear and chaos.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) promptly took notice of the blast and sought reports from SSP South and the District Monitoring Officer. Authorities are taking the incident seriously, especially considering the upcoming elections, and are intensifying efforts to investigate the incident and fortify security measures to safeguard citizens in Karachi.
