Fawad Khan & Sonam Kapoor’s Khoobsurat Producer Hints At A Sequel

News Desk |

Fawad Khan’s big Bollywood breakthrough was one of the most pleasantly surprising films of 2014. The romantic comedy set in Rajahstan is loosely based on the 1980 Bollywood film of the same name. The comedy, about the romance between a Prince (Khan) and a regular girl (Kapoor) managed to gross ₹39. 4 Crores. The movie also made critics happy and lead to Fawad Khan getting a Best Male Debut Filmfare Award.

Needless to say, no one would object if Khoobsurat had a sequel. And Rhea Kapoor, the famed producer behind the film certainly seems on board when she replied to a fan’s plea for a sequel by tagging the actors and the director of the film and saying: “A little off topic but I miss @ghoshshashanka @sonamkapoor and @fawadkhan81 so let’s think about this…”

It isn’t much but it’s certainly enough to give hope to fans. Rhea Kapoor is the daughter of Anil Kapoor and Sonam’s sister and the two have gone in length to talk about how amazing it was working with Fawad Khan. Karan Johar too has often looked back positively about working with the actor, and even went as far as choosing him over Ranbir Kapoor in a Coffee with Karan segment recently.  “I am going to go with Fawad because he’s the new novelty and Ranbir knows I am going to go with Fawad.”

Khoobsurat served as the hit Khan needed to become the global icon that he is today. He starred in two other Bollywood films Kapoor & Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil gaining further acknowledgment for his acting abilities. Khan has yet to star in a major role in any Pakistani film, since Khuda Kay Liye the 2008 Pakistani film put him on the map and has thus far only cameo in films like Ho Mann Jahan and Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2.

So perhaps India’s move to block all Pakistani actors from working there will help him contribute more in the Pakistani industry. Already he has lined up to do a project with Mahira Khan and Hamza Ali Abassi, Maula Jutt 2. The film is set to be released somewhere around this year but its lack of promotion suggests that there may be a delay. Sources have claimed recently that Khan is looking to work in Hollywood so it should be interesting to see if that pans out well for him.

In the meanwhile, the actor has his gig as the judge of Pepsi’s Battle of the Bands. He also went to Hajj recently and was invited to the King’s luncheon there. An experience he looked on quite fondly stating: ‘In a way, it is very refreshing. People during Hajj are so busy and caught up in what they are doing that they don’t have time for these things. They are very considerate. They are very careful about what they are doing.” He revealed to Arab News”.

For now though, there doesn’t seem much on the plate of Khan, so if the film can somehow happen (which seems unlikely given the ban on foreign talent), it will be sure to make fans very happy.
