Ferrari receives backlash over edited image of Masjid-e-Nabwi

Instead of showing the image of the place the event will be organized, the image showed the sacred site in Islam, the Holy Prophet’s Mosque in Madina.

Ferrari is receiving backlash on social media for its edited post showing the car in the courtyard of Masjid-e-Nabwi in Madina. The edited image was the advertisement for the Ferrari event in Jeddah.

Instead of showing the image of the place the event will be organized, the image showed the sacred site in Islam, the Holy Prophet’s Mosque in Madina. The post was met with widespread criticism on social media.

The brand was slammed for disrespecting the holy site of Islam. It is unclear if Ferrari was aware of the sanctity of Majid-e-Nabwi. A social media user first shared the image on Twitter attracting humongous attention and backlash.

A social media user condemning the post said, “This is actually insane. Not only did you edit a car to the holiest place on earth for Muslims, but you also used it to advertise a race in a whole different city… Beyond disrespectful and it would’ve taken a minute of research to stop you from making this.”

A lot of the comments on the post were critical. A Twitter user commenting on the post pointed out that perhaps they did not have people belonging to the Muslim faith who could tell them about it.

“This is what happens when teams have zero to none ethnic minority employees. End up doing nonsense like this,” said a Twitter user.

Another user said, “it’s no big deal”, I’ve never seen any team photoshop the car in a church bc they already know it’s ridiculous to do so. This is the same thing. The difference is, this is about Muslims and they don’t care about it enough to be careful.

Some even asked about the place and called it ‘beautiful’. Ferrari took down the post from Twitter and Instagram. It also deleted the image from its website to prevent further backlash.
