Pakistan Awaami Tehreek Chief Tahirul Qadri got hugged by the infamous Gullu Butt in the Supreme Court today (Wednesday). The larger bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan is hearing the case of model Town massacre in which 14 people were killed in 2014. Tahirul Qadri has arrived at court in that regard.
Gullu Butt, one of the most well-known vandals from the Model Town incident, came up to Qadri at Supreme Court and gave him a hug, which Qadri reciprocated seemingly without knowing who was hugging him. Butt was then pulled back by security officials.
Gullu Butt had challenged his conviction before Lahore High Court which quashed Gullu Butt’s sentence awarded under ATA while upheld his conviction under provisions of PPC.
Butt, the baton-wielding man during the Model Town carnage, vandalized the vehicles and properties and was sentenced to imprisonment and later released.

Gullu Butt was accused of rowdyism, obstructing public servants in discharge of official duties, smashing private vehicles with a club outside Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town on June 17, 2014, when a heavy police contingent allegedly engaged the protesting supporters of Dr. Tahirul Qadri.
An anti-terrorism court had awarded a collective punishment of 11 years and three months imprisonment to Gullu Butt under five sections of laws on Oct 30, 2014.

Gullu Butt had challenged his conviction before Lahore High Court which quashed Gullu Butt’s sentence awarded under ATA while upheld his conviction under provisions of PPC.
As the high court had set aside the five-year term as per ATA and he completed his maximum imprisonment of two years under the PPC, Gullu Butt was released on March 2017.
In a private TV interview later in Sep 2017, Butt maintained that he could not move freely even after being released from prison as he thought that PMLN or PAT might kill him.

“The Sharifs want to kill me to do away with the Model Town case. If I am murdered, Qadri’s case will be finished. I am in a position that even if someone kills me, he will become famous the world over,” Gullu Butt had alleged last year.
