Iranian President’s Visit: Local Holiday in Lahore, Karachi

The Punjab and Sindh governments declare local holidays amid security concerns during the Iranian President's visit, while a ban on drones in Karachi division aims to ensure safety, underscoring efforts to strengthen bilateral trade and diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Iran.

The Punjab government has declared a local holiday in Lahore district on April 23, coinciding with the visit of Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi to Pakistan. The decision aims to prevent inconvenience to the general public during the official visit scheduled from April 22 to April 24. Similarly, the Sindh government declared a public holiday for Karachi on the same day.

President Raisi, in his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emphasized the need to increase bilateral trade volume to $10 billion. This visit marks the first head of state visit since the February 8 general elections, signifying the importance both countries place on strengthening diplomatic ties.

Security Measures

In light of recent security concerns, the Sindh government has imposed a complete ban on drones in Karachi division from April 22 to April 28 under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The decision comes amidst reports of serious threats to vital installations by anti-state elements and hostile agencies.

This ban, authorized by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, aims to mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety and security of vital installations. Station house officers are empowered to register complaints against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code to maintain law and order during this period.

President Raisi’s visit underscores Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing economic and diplomatic relations with Iran. The announcement of increasing trade volume to $10 billion reflects the mutual desire to foster stronger economic ties and explore new avenues for cooperation.
