Islamabad judges are working but lawyers have stopped working: Justice Khosa

News Desk |

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, who will take oath as the chief justice of Pakistan on Friday, has observed that judges in the Islamabad district judiciary are sitting in their courtrooms and working to dispense justice but the lawyers have stopped working.

Justice Khosa was hearing a case regarding the ongoing strike by the lawyers in Islamabad district courts.

Lawyers led by the Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) have been observing a strike since December last year, demanding rotation of the Islamabad district judiciary judges to the district judiciary of the four provinces and posting of judges from the provinces in Islamabad district judiciary on deputation.

Justice Khosa while hearing the case on Wednesday remarked: “It is the lawyers who have stopped working. Judges are sitting there waiting for people to come to them so that they dispense justice.”

After being on a complete strike for a few weeks, the IBA has announced to continue observing strike on Wednesday and Friday. The association has announced that lawyers will appear in courts for the rest of the week.

Justice Khosa while hearing the case on Wednesday remarked: “It is the lawyers who have stopped working. Judges are sitting there waiting for people to come to them so that they dispense justice.”
