JUI Sherani group announce alliance with PTI

In a major shock for the ruling PDM and its leader Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, the breakaway faction of JUI, JUI Sherani group announced political alliance with PTI after a formal meeting between the leaders of the two political parties on Monday.

The leader of the Sherani group, Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, along with a 25-member delegation, met PTI Chairman Imran Khan at KP House in Islamabad. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Qasim Suri, and Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri were also present at the meeting. During the meeting the two parties agreed to cooperate with each other on political and religious matters, hence the alliance was formally announced after the meeting.

Imran Khan welcomed the alliance with open arms and remarked that his party strives to achieve higher political and social goals beyond traditional politics. Imran Khan also urged other religious leaders to come forward for the guidance of the nation. Moreover, Imran Khan expressed hope that the two parties will be able to act upon the agreement reached.

Maulana Sherani, while speaking at the occasion, said that the struggle against Islamophobia is the common goal of both the parties. He underscored the importance of eliminating the discrimination in the society. Moreover, he outlines the three guiding principles of his party; no action from their party against Quran and Sunnah, propagation of the Islamic teachings, and avoid forcing or pressurizing anyone to work with them.

Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani served as a member of the National Assembly up till 2018, he has also served as the Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII). Maulana Sheraani had parted ways with JUI-F in 2020 over difference in socio-political views.

In the ensuing political crisis in the country, this alliance being regarded as major development. This new political alliance can hurt the support base of the whole PDM, particularly that of JUI-F in the upcoming general elections.
