Justice for Nawaz first, elections later: Maryam Nawaz gets slammed for her demands

PTI has consistently demanded elections and has been working towards making the way for general elections in the country. Needless to say, Maryam Nawaz's demands did not sit well with many.

PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz has become the target of intense criticism for her demands. At a workers’ convention in Sahiwal, she demanded redressal of “injustice” against the party’s supremo, Nawaz Sharif, ahead of the next elections.

Addressing PML-N workers, Maryam Nawaz said that the general elections will definitely be held but first both sides of the scales will have to be balanced by overturning the conviction of “innocent Nawaz Sharif” and bringing Imran Khan to justice.

“First, respect the vote, then there will be justice, then there will be an election. Provide justice today, then tomorrow, there will be an election in this country,” Maryam Nawaz said.

“The elections will be held after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will be measured on the same standards of justice set for Nawaz Sharif,” Maryam Nawaz also said.

Pertinent to mention that PML-N’s political opponent PTI, along with a majority of the public, has consistently demanded elections and has been working towards making the way for general elections in the country. Needless to say, the demands made by Maryam Nawaz did not sit well with many.

“Listening to the words of Maryam Nawaz and Marriyum Aurangzeb, one remembers the Punjabi proverb about the Noon-League, “One Sawne Chaudhry Te Gandhi Ran Pradhan,” PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said.

“Nawaz Sharif was punished for corruption, but he could not give the receipts, but Maryam Safdar herself told the London plan, which was prepared by Nawaz Sharif a few months ago on the assurances that Imran Khan will be put in jail and will also be disqualified from the field. Embarrassing,” Farrukh Habib from PTI said.

“Maryam Nawaz exposed the deal done in London. What else will happen? It has become known, but who knows how it will happen?” anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan said.

“Masha’Allah, even after cooking the khichdi of 13 parties and using full force against Imran Khan, making the system a slave, both sides of the scales of Maryam Nawaz are not equal?” journalist Maleeha Hashmey said.

Nawaz Sharif — who is residing in London since 2019 — stepped down as the prime minister on July 28, 2017, after a five-member Supreme Court bench had unanimously disqualified Nawaz for failing to disclose his un-withdrawn receivables constituting assets from UAE-based Capital FZE in his nominations papers for the 2013 General Election, stating that this meant he was not “honest” and “truthful”, as per the Constitution.
