Karachi blast: Who was female suicide bomber Shari Baloch?

Shari Baloch, aka Bramsh, was recruited by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and was titled "Fidaye"(the one willing to give up his/her life for a cause).

A Baloch woman named Shari Baloch blew herself up in a suicide attack on Chinese nationals at Karachi University on Tuesday. The suicide blast killed four Chinese nationals and a Pakistani van driver.

A journalist reveals some shocking details about Shari Baloch. Baloch had MSc and MPhil degrees. Baloch was married to a doctor and was the mother of two children.

Shari Baloch, aka Bramsh, was being recruited by Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and was titled as Fidaye (the one willing to give up his/her life for a cause). The details reveal Shari Baloch was a secondary school teacher in her native Kech district of Balochistan. She belonged to a well-educated and well-established family.

She completed her B.Ed in 2014 and M.Ed in 2018. She did her Master’s in zoology from the University of Balochistan and Mphil at Allama Iqbal Open University, Turbat campus. Her husband is a dentist doctor, and her father served as a Director in a government agency. Later her father was a member of the District Council for three years.

Her father served as a registrar at the University of Turbat lately, remained part of the district ombudsman team for three years, and was director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA). She has 3 brothers and four sisters. Her brother-in-law is a lecturer.

She has been absent from school for the last six months. District Education Officer had served her a show-cause notice, but she didn’t respond.

Shari Baloch’s mission

During her student life, she remained an active member of the Baloch Student Organization. The motive behind her joining the Baloch armed struggle is unclear. None of her family members are missing or subjected to enforced disappearance.

Meanwhile, Baloch Liberation Army says, Shari joined the Majeed Brigade two years ago and voluntarily signed up for the self-sacrificing mission. BLA says she was given time to review her decision. She, however, chose her mission.

“During these two years, Shari Baloch rendered her services in different units of the Majeed Brigade. Six months ago she confirmed that she continues to stand by her decision of carrying out a self-sacrificing attack. After that, she got actively involved in her mission,” #BLA said.
