An extensive plan has been developed for the purchase and distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine in Kyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by its government. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health secretary will lead a newly formulated Provincial Vaccine Administration and Coordination Cell (PVACC).
Apart from PVACC, District Administration and Coordination Cells (DVACC) have also been set up in every one of the 35 districts as well as the tribal districts. DVACCs will perform under the PVACC which will be supervised and headed by Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs).
In addition, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has established a total of 280 Health Vaccine Administration Cells (HVAC) all over the KP province. In these HVACs, frontline health workers and experts will be administered the Covid-19 vaccine during the first phase of vaccine administration.
The KP government has been conducting training on vaccine administration. Provincial and district master trainers were trained by the KP government earlier this week. Currently, there is an ongoing cascade training occurring across the province.
An adverse event following immunization (AFEI) strategy has also been developed by the KP government in case there are any unknown reactions caused by the Covid-19 vaccine.
The KP government is waiting for the federal government’s directives to formulate a supply chain management mechanism and has already done the cold chain assessment.
National Immunisation System by NCOC
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) which is a national effort to curb Covid-19 has developed a National Immunisation Management System, in association with the Ministry of Health, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), and National Information Technology Board (NITB).
The National Immunisation System would guarantee an efficacious administration and supply chain management of the Covid-19 vaccine. The system is anticipated to be available by mid-January and will be announced to the citizens soon.
Electronic registration for the administration of the Covid-19 vaccine will be made possible through this system. Citizens will be able to register either through SMS or the internet by providing their CNIC numbers.
The Pakistani government is in close communication with the world’s leading Covid-19 manufacturers to ensure it gets here timely, informed NCOC.
