Pakistan’s popular media organization Hum TV has issued a clarification over the controversy that targeted the celebrities and the media organization for prioritizing the award show over their civic duty.
The celebrities and team of Hum awards were spotted traveling to Toronto, Canada on Election Day on 25th July. The celebrities, including Mahira Khan, Bushra Ansari and Yasir Hussain, could not vote on the Election Day as they had left for the Hum awards in Canada.
Not only the general public, however, many popular figures from within the entertainment industry including Imran Abbas and Farhan Saeed called out their colleagues for apparent irresponsible behavior. They questioned if the flight could have been delayed for a day so that the celebrities would have honored their civic duty.
Mahira Khan, however, in her social media post expressed her disappointment over not being able to vote due to her work commitments but she encouraged her followers to go out of their homes and vote for their selected candidate.
Yasir Hussain, too, retorted on the controversy and criticized people for shaming celebrities. He informed the concerned celebrities had their contracts signed with the organization six months ahead of the elections.
Actress Samina Pirzada on her social media informed that she will be casting vote before leaving for Hum TV awards in Toronto.
Hum TV awards in their official statement clarified that not all the celebrities have flown to Canada but only those who had to prepare for their performances in the award show. The media organization reiterated their support for the country in their Facebook post.
They informed that the event was scheduled six months before and at that moment the elections dates were not announced. The press release further stated that the resources committed to the event prevent them for rescheduling the event but it is promised that the Hum TV awards will promote the soft image of Pakistan internationally.
