Maryam Nawaz labels PM Khan a “certified thief”

When asked about the recent Toshakhana case and high petrol prices in Pakistan, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz had strong words for PM Imran Khan. Calling him "Pakistan's certified thief," Maryam Nawaz said he will be held answerable.

Thursday, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz labeled PM Khan as “Pakistan’s biggest certified thief.” The heavy accusation came amid the current issues of the government refusing to release details of foreign gifts (Toshakhana) and the high petrol prices.

Talking to the media after appearing in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the Avenfield case, Maryam Nawaz said PM Khan will answer for his theft.

For the Toshakhana case, Maryam Nawaz demanded accountability from PM Khan, as the gifts received are not the government’s property. To the Opposition, the government cannot simply withhold information from the public.

“When your (Imran Khan) theft was revealed, you easily refused accountability. How can you say this when it was not your property?” she questioned.

Earlier, a citizen submitted an application seeking details from the government on foreign gifts received. As a result, the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) sought details from the PTI-led federal government in response.

The federal government challenged the matter in Islamabad High Court (IHC), arguing that details of the gifts are “classified”.

This sparked severe criticism from the Opposition. In this regard, Maryam Nawaz recalled PM Khan’s earlier statements on how accountability starts from the prime minister of a country. PM Khan’s statements aimed at Nawaz Sharif, whom he frequently accuses of theft.

“You cannot call others a ‘thief’ and then later do the same,” Maryam Nawaz said.

PM Khan a certified thief?

When asked about the high petrol prices within Pakistan, Maryam Nawaz again had strong words. Staying true to PML-N’s tactic of bringing up past statements, Maryam Nawaz said as per PM Khan’s own words, he is Pakistan’s certified thief.

“Imran Khan used to say when petrol is expensive, then the prime minister is a thief. If diesel is expensive, then the prime minister is a thief. If wheat is expensive, then the prime minister is a thief,” Maryam Nawaz said, quoting the current prime minister of Pakistan.

“In this regard, Imran Khan Sahab is Pakistan’s first certified and greatest thief,” the PML-N leader reiterated.
