Mehwish Hayat defends item numbers

News Desk |

Actress Mehwish Hayat defends her choice of doing item numbers in her latest tweet. Hayat received flak on social media ever since the release of her latest item song ‘Gangster Guriya’.

The song may prick the eyes of people but for the actress, item songs are a source of women empowerment. Unaffected by the criticism, Hayat bravely upheld her decision to perform in item numbers.

“To do these dance numbers has been my choice. As an actress and performer, it is my job. As a woman I find my work empowering. Dance to me is aesthetically the purest form of art”, tweeted actress Mehwish Hayat with a link to the video of ‘Gangster Guriya’.

Actor Osman Khalid Butt also tweeted and defended Hayat,  requesting people not to breach ethics while criticizing and sharing their views.

‘Gangster Guriya’ is an item song from the upcoming movie ‘Baaji’.

Hayat made her scintillating moves as Sunidhi Chauhan lent her perfect vocals to the song. Her look in ‘Guriya Gangster’ resembled Katrina Kaif’s rowdy and unruly avatar in ‘Afghan Jalebi’ from Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. Portraying a rebellious girl, Mehwish Hayat flawlessly thumps her foot on the ground while dancing to the beats of ‘Gangster Guriya’. The song has been released on YouTube and the video has garnered more than 207,503 views, as of yet.

Hayat is once again countering flak from netizens on social media. A recipient of the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, for her contributions to Pakistani cinema and art, people want Mehwish Hayat to be wary of her choice of work. Pakistan, primarily being a conservative society, discourages bold portrayal of women.

It is brave of Mehwish Hayat to sign up for another item song despite the severe dissension directed towards her on her first item song ‘Bili’.
