MG ZS EV’s price plunges as the new auto policy comes into effect

This price plunge follows the elaborate five-year Automotive Industry Development and Exports Policy which has given incentives to develop the electric vehicle industry in Pakistan. This initiative will reduce the carbon emissions and reduce Pakistan's dependency on oil in the long run.

As the new Auto Policy 2021-26 comes into implementation, the prices of automobiles are expected to fall. This is especially true for electric vehicles since the government has given a lot of incentives to the EV industry.

As such, the price of MG ZS EV, Pakistan’s first locally produced EV has gone down by Rs600,000.

The price of the Chinese electric vehicle for the customers who will book the vehicle in the future will be Rs6,250,000 or Rs6.25 million. It has come down from the previous price tag of Rs6.85 million.

However, the car would still be expensive for the masses at such a high price. This is true for the majority of electric vehicles globally.

The MG ZS EV has no direct competitor in the local market, but there are SUV crossovers in the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) category. They can still be fierce competition as the EV infrastructure is practically non-existent in Pakistan, which increases the opportunity cost of EV. This is another point the upcoming EV policy is focused on.

Here are some features of the MG ZS EV in Pakistan.

Engine

The ZS EV, which is an electronic vehicle (as the name suggests) functions on a 44.5 kWh battery paired with a CVT automatic transmission.

It’s able to produce 141 horsepower (HP) at max. However, this isn’t the most attractive feature. Most importantly, MG’s ZS EV is able to travel 262 kms in a single charge! (This is actually very impressive), meaning that it is quite good for intracity travel. However, inter-city travel would require extensive infrastructure, which is not developed in Pakistan yet.

Exterior

The ZS EV, billed as a family-friendly electric car by the company, offers better mileage than most mid-range vehicles but does not compromise on style in any way. The vehicle is equipped with a bunch of the latest features. It comes with:

  • LED daytime running lamps
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • LED Centre Brake Light
  • Bi-Function Project Headlights
  • Rear aero wipers
  • Front aero wipers
  • Electrically adjustable side mirrors

Such features exhibit that this vehicle is specifically designed for those who want all the advantages of a zero-emissions vehicle without compromising on practicality or style. The ZS EV has 17-inch wheels.

Interior

The ZS EV comes with heated front seats. Furthermore, it comes in two options; customers can choose between fabric and leather.

Other features include:

  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • 4-speaker/ 6-speaker audio systems
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Rear parking cameras

It comes with an 8-inch infotainment system.

Safety features

No matter how powerful or feature-packed a vehicle is if it does not have adequate safety features it isn’t worth it. After all, who would prefer features over one’s survival? In this regard, the British automaker has equipped the ZS EV with:

  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • Hill Assist
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
  • Engine Immobilizer
  • Anti-Rolling Protection

Hope other car manufacturers follow suit and the masses can afford electric vehicles in the near future. However, MG Pakistan has the first movers advantage in the EV sector. This is because of the low cost of production due to local plant and incentives given to the company.
