Mufti Taqi Usmani asks Afghan Taliban to resume female education

Mufti Taqi Usmani wrote a letter to Taliban Chief Haibatullah Akhundzada. Mufti Usmani said that it is important for the Taliban to make necessary arrangements for the education of women according to Sharia law.

Renowned religious scholar, Mufti Taqi Usmani, in an open letter to the Afghan Taliban has urged them to reopen girl’s schools.

He wrote a letter to Taliban Chief Haibatullah Akhundzada. Mufti Usmani said that it is important for the Taliban to make necessary arrangements for the education of women according to Sharia law. The scholar added that educated women are necessary for society.

“Girls’ education is currently an important issue which the enemy of the Islamic Emirate has used as a propaganda tool. We value the wise and wholehearted measures which the Islamic Emirate has taken so far. But we are of the view that it is necessary to make appropriate arrangements for girls’ education in accordance with Sharia,” he said in the letter.

“Secondly, there is a need to dispel the impression that Islam or the Islamic Emirate are against women’s education. However, it is necessary to make separate arrangements for girls’ education from boys,” said Mufti Taqi Usmani in a letter to the Taliban.

In his letter, he put forward solutions for the Afghan Taliban to solve the issue of segregated education for men and women. He said he heard the Taliban are having difficulty in arranging separate educational facilities for men and women. For this, they can set morning and evening schedules for girls and boys in the same school.

Other than this, different sections of the same school can be designated for each gender.  “A solution can be found with mutual consultations,” he said.

Before Mufti Taqi Usmani, 16 Pakistan-Afghani Islamic scholars had also written a letter to the Afghan Taliban urging them to make necessary arrangements for the girl’s education according to Islamic principles.

In other news, the Taliban have banned TikTok in Afghanistan. They believe the social media application is misleading the younger generation. Imanullah Sangani expressed his views on Twitter.
