Najam Sethi faces backlash for absurd tweet on PSL and TTP attacks

In the now-deleted tweet, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi said that there is no threat to PSL as the TTP said it will only attack the country's security establishment.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi is receiving intense backlash on social media for his absurd tweet saying that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) will only target State Security Establishment.

The tweet from the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman came after the outlawed TTP threatened more attacks against law enforcement officers.

In the now-deleted tweet, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi said that there is no threat to PSL as the TTP said it will only attack the country’s security establishment.

“The TTP has said they will only target State Security Establishment because various deals have broken down. There is no threat to PSL. It will go on,” Najam Sethi said.

The tweet was deleted, however, the screen grab of the tweet was taken and it has gone viral, resulting in intense backlash for Najam Sethi for what is being termed an “irresponsible” comment.

Pertinent to mention that the tweet by Najam Sethi comes after the TTP attack on Police Chief Office in Karachi. The attack resulted in an intense four-hour-long gun battle between Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and the terrorists. During the whole episode, three persons, including security personnel, were martyred, while 18 people sustained injuries. Five terrorists were also killed in the attack.

While the security forces successfully managed to neutralize the threat, the incident had nevertheless been condemned and calls for strict action against terrorists were once again made.

Moreover, the attack comes as HBL Pakistan Super League matches were being held in the country with international players taking part. The terror attack raised concern for the ongoing HBLPSL match as citizens wondered whether the matches will be canceled or not.

However, the matches will be held as per schedule, and a presidential level of security has been provided to the players of the franchise sides currently staying in the city.
