Over smart “Gabita” caught stealing money from Uber driver’s tip jar

 News Desk |

A young woman in New York got attention due to an act which shocked everyone. The graceless woman who stole an Uber driver’s tips from his jar has been identified as an 18-year-old girl from Brooklyn who has since mocked her crime on social media. Gabrielle Canales, who calls herself Gabita on social media, was identified on Tuesday after footage of her stealing cash from driver Mohammed H. Bhuiyan’s tip jar in August went viral.

On August 12, Canales was filmed reaching into his jar and snatching his cash as she got out of the car with two friends.

The footage went viral on Tuesday after reappearing online but Canales was remorseless and appeared to revel in her newfound infamy.

She shared screenshots of news articles about it on Instagram and Snapchat and said she ‘only’ took $5 from the man which she claims to have returned later.

Before getting into his car, she posed in her underwear in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, for two Instagram pictures. The young girl is believed to have grown up in Central Islip, New York.

Although the entire Uber app is cashless, Uber drivers now have the freedom to solicit tips from passengers.

Passengers can also tip on their phone at the end of a journey. While the company has never strictly prohibited tipping, the company has now made it clear that tips are allowed. The video was first published on YouTube in August but since gained attention online this weekend. It is not clear whether or not police have investigated it.
