National Minorities Day
Earlier, the country observed National Minorities Day honor the minority communities as per the vision and ideology of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It was celebrated to recognize the services and sacrifices rendered by religious minorities for the country.
The day is aimed to recognize the contribution and sacrifices of minorities in the creation of Pakistan and nation-building.
It has always been the endeavor of the Government to safeguard fundamental rights, safety, security, honor, life, liberty, and prosperity of minorities in line with the historic speech of the founder of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah at the Constituent Assembly on August 11, 1947.
Interestingly, Jogendra Nath Mandal, the first law minister of Pakistan, presided the assembly session in which Quaid-e-Azam had delivered his keynote speech in which he exhorted the respect and equal rights for the minorities. Quaid-e-Azam wanted him to preside the session to give a strong message of equality for minorities in Pakistan. Since after the creation of Pakistan, Hindu became the minority community in the country.
The Government of Pakistan declared 11 August as National Minority Day in 2009. To mark the day, different events, including seminars and social gatherings, were arranged across the country by members of various religious minorities.
