PIA might resume flights to Paris next month; UK to follow in August

PIA has expedited the repair works on its 777 aircraft fleet to ensure the airline meets the safety standards for European and UK routes.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)will resume direct flights to Paris and the UK next month. The flights will resume on August 14th, 2024, marking a significant development after four years.

PIA spokesman said that PIA would get phase-wise permission from the International Aviation Safety Assessment this month. In a recent meeting with the Council of Economics and Energy, the spokesman talked about the airline’s plan for expanding its operations.

PIA has expedited the repair works on its 777 aircraft fleet to ensure the airline meets the safety standards for European and UK routes. PIA has seven 777 aircraft, and is planning to introduce two more aircraft in the fleet over the next two months, informed Spokesman Abdullah Hafeez.

A meeting of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s review board regarding the lifting of the ban will take place on May 14th, 2024. A high-level delegation along with the Secretary of Aviation will leave for Brussels on Sunday to participate in the meeting.

Reports on the audits of the important civil aviation sectors and PIA will be presented in the meeting with IASA. Civil Aviation Authority had successfully passed the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Universal Aviation Security Audit.

CAA has also achieved success in the key areas of the authority of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. According to sources, there are chances of the ban being lifted up from PIA.

Back in March 2024, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan took significant steps towards the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the restructuring of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). In a high-level meeting, he emphasized the need for a final implementation schedule for PIA’s privatization and approved a proposed roadmap for the automation of FBR.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Ministry of Privatization to present a final implementation schedule for the privatization of PIA within two days. This directive highlights the government’s commitment to reforming the struggling national airline and attracting private investment to enhance its efficiency and competitiveness.
