PM Shehbaz Resigned as President

A gathering of the party's central committee is now scheduled for May 18 to formally address this transition.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif relinquished his role as the President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday, paving the way for the party’s paramount figure and thrice-former premier, Nawaz Sharif, to ascend to the party’s helm. The announcement was affirmed by party leader Marriyum Aurangzeb in a communication on X, which also included the premier’s resignation letter.

A gathering of the party’s central committee is now scheduled for May 18 to formally address this transition. In a missive directed to the party’s secretary general, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Shehbaz articulated his sentiments, stating, “I am writing to acknowledge a pivotal juncture in the annals of our party, Pakistan Muslim League (N), and to reassert my steadfast allegiance to its tenets and principles.”

Reflecting on the tumultuous events of 2017, wherein the disqualification of our esteemed leader and Quaid, Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, from the Prime Minister’s office and the presidency of our party ensued, Shehbaz reflected on the resilience and perseverance that defined the party’s stance under Nawaz Sharif’s guidance.

Nawaz Sharif to retake the position

“In the face of adversity, Quaid Mohammad Nawaz Sharif entrusted me with the responsibility of assuming the presidency of the party, a duty I have discharged with utmost dedication and sincerity,” he emphasized.

Acknowledging the presidency as a sacred trust, or “amanaat,” bestowed upon him by their revered leader, Shehbaz expressed his gratification for the recent developments that have vindicated Nawaz Sharif and highlighted his unwavering integrity and commitment to national service.

With the unwavering guidance of Nawaz Sharif and the recent exoneration, Shehbaz believes it is time for Mohammad Nawaz Sharif to reclaim his rightful position as the President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and impart his invaluable leadership and vision for the party’s progression. Thus, he tendered his resignation with a profound sense of duty and respect for the party’s foundational principles.
