President Arif Alvi on Tuesday admitted the selection of venue was a ‘poor decision’ for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Alvi Dental and an American company.
A tweet on Tuesday said that “For the signing ceremony of an MOU between @DrAwab and his friend in my presence, the venue selection was a matter of poor judgment.”
Recently, an event was organized for the signing of the agreement between his son Dr.Awab Alvi and Bringing Smiles USA at the Sindh’s Governor House at Sindh’s Governor House.
The apologetic statement came after several netizens had questioned President Arif Alvi for using the public property for a personal event. Along with President Arif Alvi and his son Awab Alvi, First Lady Samina Alvi was also present on the occasion.

Earlier, the president had congratulated the son for the signing of the MoU. “Wish you success in this collaboration with your friends who are also bringing in foreign investment,” he said on Twitter in response to his son’s tweet.
Awab Alvi had shared the picture from the event on social media. It showed President Arif Alvi standing beside him while he signed MoU.
Questions were raised by PMLN’s Ayesha Raza Farooq and other people. . “Why is this signing off taking place at the Governor’s house? Why is the president of Pakistan promoting his family’s business? Isn’t this a violation of his oath? Conflict of interest?” Ayesha Farooq asked.

It is not very common in our society to admit mistakes and regret. President Arif Alvi did regret that Governor House should not have been used for son's venture. It was a matter of poor judgment. Thank you Mr. President.

.. The venue originally selected was Alvi Dental but to avoid inconvenience because of security to APS school right next to us, it was changed. In retrospect we could have avoided it But any catering that was done was paid by me personally

PMLN’s Khawaja Saad Rafique also questioned the president. He said he respected him a lot but he should not have compromised his principles. “But after you became president, a lot of complaints have arisen,” wrote Saad Rafique.
Awab Alvi later took to social media and informed that his father, Arif Alvi, had resigned from Alvi Dental after he assumed office.
“This venture is between me and my Pakistani US diaspora dentist-alumnus friend,” he said. Awab Alvi mentioned the reason for selecting the venue and informed that he paid the expenses of the catering.
