Priyanka Chopra’s venture into Hollywood is proving to be more and more fruitful. The star has been a household name in the US thanks to her part in ABC’s drama Quantico and her marriage to Jonas Brother, Nick. Now she seems to be adding to her repertoire of roles with a seemingly major one.
Avengers: Endgame director has just stated that Chopra is in talks for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Bollywood diva who got her breakout role in the 2003 film Aitaraz, has been slowly filling her resume with a number of foreign projects and now a role in an upcoming Marvel flick could raise her star even higher.
The news came about when the Avengers: Endgame director was asked during a media interaction in India if he would consider casting Chopra in any upcoming movie. The response was decidedly positive: “I’d love to work with Priyanka. I’m smiling only because we’re potentially talking to her about something, I’m just not going to say what yet.”
This news has already been greeted with approval from fans who are eager to see Chopra becoming the first South Asian superhero but it remains unclear what role she will play if negotiations with her indeed pan out. The name on everyone’s lips is Kamala Khan, a fan favorite superhero introduced in a revamped version of Miss Marvel in 2014.
The Pakistani-American teen becomes Captain Marvel’s protégée and Brie Larson who plays Captain Marvel in the movie has already talked about wanting the teen superhero in a sequel. What makes the chances of Chopra playing this character less likely though, is the fact that iterations of the character nearly always portray her as a teenager and much of the fun comes from seeing the Muslim superhero navigate her teenage life.
So Marvel choosing to cast a 36-year-old woman may not be the best decision for the character. However, there are a number of projects in the works from Marvel and any of them could involve the Baywatch star. Firstly, Marvel is finally set to release a Black Widow movie and we already know that it will feature plenty of female spies. Chopra could play another Black Widow in the movie alongside Scarlett Johanssen.
There is also room in the always expanding Guardians of the Galaxy roster for new characters and it would be fun to see Priyanka Chopra play a different alien. And finally, we already know that Marvel is planning to go big with the Chloe Zhao film “The Eternals”, what with an intergalactic love story in play and Angelina Jolie cast in a primary role, and Chopra could fit in that ensemble film as well.
Needless to say that there are infinite possibilities for Chopra to work her talents in an upcoming Marvel movie, possibly even as part of the new Avengers roster that will form after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
