PTI Leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid Hospitalized

The jail administration labeled Dr. Rashid a “critical prisoner” in a document issued by the Kot Lakhpat Jail's medical officer.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid has been transferred to Services Hospital following a decline in her health at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail, it was reported on Wednesday.

Hospital documents confirmed that Dr. Rashid, a cancer survivor, had been admitted and was undergoing medical tests due to abdominal pain. The hospital administration noted that she would be kept under observation for 24 hours.

The jail administration labeled Dr. Rashid a “critical prisoner” in a document issued by the Kot Lakhpat Jail’s medical officer. The document also stated that she had not eaten anything since Wednesday morning and was experiencing dehydration after “multiple episodes of vomiting.”

Dr. Rashid has been imprisoned for months, facing multiple cases related to the May 9 riots that erupted across the country following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in a corruption case last year. In the wake of these riots, many PTI leaders, workers, and supporters remain incarcerated or have been repeatedly rearrested on various charges.

Earlier this month, Dr. Rashid wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, urging the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9, stating that they had been awaiting justice for a year. She questioned the “fake government” about the absence of police with case records and the prosecutor’s failure to present arguments when required.

In her letter, she also highlighted that it had been a year since the May 9 incident, yet women affiliated with her party were still in prison.
