Putin appreciates Pakistan for promoting regional peace: Qureshi

In a brief meeting on sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Bishkek, the foreign minister said, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Russian President Putin discussed the Afghanistan issue, the situation in the Middle East and Iran, and PM Khan took the Russian president into confidence on Kashmir’s situation.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the Russian President Vladimir Putin has appreciated Pakistan’s role and efforts for promoting regional peace and security.

In a brief meeting on sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Bishkek, the foreign minister said, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Russian President Putin discussed the Afghanistan issue, the situation in the Middle East and Iran, and PM Khan took the Russian president into confidence on Kashmir’s situation.

Talking to media persons, Qureshi said: “Russian President appreciated Pakistan’s role and efforts for promoting regional peace and security.” He said that different changes were taking place in the world but unfortunately, global uncertainty is increasing.

The two world leaders were engaging in conversation on several occasions. Of world leaders present at the SCO meeting, PM Khan interacted with President Putin the most.

The minister said the SCO forum provided an opportunity for peace, stability and regional connectivity. He said that Pakistan would import 1,000-megawatt electricity from Kyrgyzstan by 2021 to overcome power shortage in the summer season.

He said the leadership of Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan also held talks on early completion of the CASA-1000 project, which would start from Kyrgyzstan and reach Afghanistan through Tajikistan and onward to Pakistan.

He said that during the meetings among the head of states, Pakistan signed three agreements to promote education, health and cultural activities.

Discussions between PM Khan and Putin

PM Khan and Putin held several informal discussions as they attended the 19th meeting of the Council of the Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The two world leaders were engaging in conversation on several occasions. Of world leaders present at the SCO meeting, PM Khan interacted with President Putin the most. During a lunch, Khan and Putin sat next to each other and continued to be engaged in conversation. Khan and Putin were also seen standing next to each other during the photo sessions.

Pakistan Attractive Investment Destination, PM Tells SCO Heads of State

At SCO summit, PM Khan said that Pakistan is an attractive investment destination and a large market endowed with a rich array of resources. Addressing the meeting, the premier said that the predominantly young population of Pakistan is imbued with immense energy and creativity.

“Our other endowments include a vast pool of skilled human resource, a large agrarian base, tremendous tourism potential, diverse mineral wealth, and a developed IT infrastructure,” the media quoted him as saying. He said Pakistan builds its partnerships based on mutual respect, sovereign equality and equal benefit.
