Second marriage for a child is cruelty: Sher Afzal Marwat

He said, he took some time to think through things and reached a decision to not marry again.

PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat said that marrying a second time for the sake of children is an act of cruelty.

The politician revealed that he was once faced with a similar situation in his life, however, he decided against marrying for a second time for a child. The firebrand politician said that he did not have a kid for five to six years after his marriage. His wife urged to remarry to have children.

Marwat said that it was quite common in his family to have a son was norm in his family. “In 2007, my wife told me I should marry again,” he began. “My son had not been born at the time, and we had already been married for about 5 or 6 years. My father was still alive back then, and taking on a second wife [to have a son] was the norm [in our family].”

He said, he took some time to think through things and reached a decision to not marry again. Sher Afzal Marwat said that he informed his wife, he cant make her go through this much pain. “I thought about it for some time, and then told her that I couldn’t put her through such pain,” he said.

Sher Afzal Marwat added that it would be cruel to any woman that her husband marries off someone else.  “I couldn’t bring another woman into our lives just to have a child,” he stated. “Like everyone else, a woman has just one life. She has basically burned everything in her life just to start a new life with you,” the PTI leader added.

Sher Afzal Marwat now an MNA from Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf rose to prominence after joining the party a few months back. He is among the firebrand politicians who has gained public attention due to his controversial statements lately.
