Tahir ul Qadri holds press conference after Model Town report decision

News Analysis |

On Tuesday, a few hours after the Lahore High Court ordered the report to be made public in the next 30 days, Dr. Tahir ul Qadri held a press conference to express his feelings about the decision.

During the press conference Qadri confidently expressed that both the Sharif brothers will soon be behind bars. He continued by stating that the report had been buried by the government because it revealed who was responsible for the horrible clashes on 17th June 2014, that led to the murder of 14 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) members and left 100 injured after Punjab Police opened fire.

As the story develops it will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow as Tahir ul Qadri will try his best to receive the report as early as possible.

Tahir ul Qadri and his party did not let the issue die down and continued their pursuit of justice despite facing strong opposition from the Punjab government as they tried to divert the public’s attention from the commission report. “We did not form the commission, it was solely constituted by the Punjab government after terming it a serious public concern and appointing Justice Baqar Najafi as head of the commission” said Qadri.

Despite the facts that were present, the government refused to release the Justice Baqar Najafi report.

Qadri stated that the party has the option of further protesting if the government tries to create any more hurdles in the release of the report. He called for the immediate release of the report and said that him and PAT activists would peacefully file an application tomorrow (Wednesday) for its release.

Qadri stated that him and his party have the option of protesting if the government tries to create any more hurdles in the release of the report.

PML-N leader Zaeem Qadri responded to Qadri’s claims and said that the reason the report was not being released was because it was incomplete. He also added that the provincial government will challenge the report in the Supreme Court.

Earlier today, a three-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the release of the Model Town inquiry report within the next 30 days. LHC has rejected the Punjab Government’s appeal and has demanded the release of the report. The leader of the opposition, PTI’s Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed stated, “We demand the immediate resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. After Nawaz, now Shehbaz will go home. I am seeing the end of his politics”.
