Twitter mocks Shehbaz Sharif on ‘platinum medal’ goal for athletes

A social media user, in his hilarious comment, asked what the gold medalists will have to do to win a platinum medal next time.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is being mocked online for his ‘platinum medal’ statement on Thursday. He made a gaffe while addressing the Pakistani medalists in Commonwealth Games and Islamic Solidarity Games.

PM Sharif said that he wishes the medalists who won bronze to win silver; who won silver should win gold; the athletes who won gold should try to win a ‘platinum’ medal next time. The audience, however, responded to him with applause.

A short clip of PM Shehbaz Sharif from his speech went viral on social media. Netizens posted hilarious comments on social media; some reminded the premier that the ‘platinum medal’ does not exist. Others posted laughing emojis.

PM Sharif praised the efforts and achievements of Pakistani athletes in international tournaments. Athlete Arshad Nadeem, who won back-to-back gold medals in both the events in Javelin Throw, demanded PM Sharif provide basic facilities in his village including a hospital. Nadeem urged PM Sharif to make his village a model village.

Following Arshad Nadeem, Shahbaz Sharif addressed the gathering. He started off by praising the athletes for their remarkable achievements. Sharif said these athletes have made the country proud globally; he credited the parents, families, and coaches for the success.

Premier added that the success of the athletes is the result of their efforts, hard work, and perseverance. It also highlights the fact that hard work always bears success. He said these athletes are the pride of the nation; the people of Pakistan are praising and appreciate them. PM Sharif said the nation looks them with the utmost respect. He added that he believes these athletes will achieve success in the future.
