What are the Most Popular Games Created in Japan?

If you asked any gamer a decade ago about the best video game in history, some of the answers you could most likely get would be Chrono trigger, Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Brothers and Final Fantasy VII. Although these are present in many online casinos in Japan, there are other popular games created by companies in the country as highlighted next.

Final Fantasy

Created by Hironobu Sakaguchi in 1987, Final Fantasy is a Japanese science-fantasy video game that is owned by Square Enix. This game was based on Tolkienesque fantasy novels. It is considered the most prominent RPG series in the world and is characterised by giant swords, angry teens and shiny crystals. This series places the gamer in the war-ravaged shoes of heroes who defiantly fight to defeat a powerful enemy.

Here, you will notice an interesting setting packed with a sprawling world and music. Players can always collect weapons and get arms as they play through mini games and side quests. There are two components in this game including the battle and the field sections. The gamer is expected to move on the field while pushing the characters around dungeons, a large world map and towns.

While moving around, the player can shop for weapons, collect treasures and talk to people. Along the way are also invisible enemies who, in a flash, take the player to a different battle screen. The gamer wins by giving each of the four characters to either attack or use items or magic. So far, this video game has sold over 140 million copies globally, making it one of the bestselling franchises of all time.

Kingdom hearts

Since it was first released in 2002, this video game has been a mainstay in the gaming industry. It was developed and published by Square Enix and takes Disney’s iconic characters, blending them with designs of anime characters. It follows a storyline of light overcoming darkness through the power of friendship. Kingdom Heart has gathered thirteen games, and as of February 2019, had sold over 30 million copies globally.

Dragon Quest

Published by Square Enix, Dragon Quest is a Yuji Horii creation featuring Japanese characters role-playing. It was first published in 1986, and so far, has eleven main series games and spin-offs. The basic premise of the game is to act hero on a mission to save the land from evil plotted by an enemy. In this game, the hero is accompanied by party members. This game has several religious overtones captured outside Japan.

Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter is a phenomenal game and is particularly popular for its multiplayer system, especially with the PSP and SDS and the incredible line of monsters to catch. Gamers mine minerals to create or upgrade their weapons, a tactic that builds confidence when hunting the beasts.

A variety of landscapes are presented, where players explore as they hunt. Gradually, the player gets to master the hunting tactic and takes down the monsters. This game has a consistent flow of content that keeps players engaged. When gaming, you could almost invariably play with someone you know because of the sociological aspect of the multiplayer system. So far, this game has sold over 5.5 million units across the globe.

Mario Bros

Published by Nintendo in 1983, Mario Bros is a platform game that was created by Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario is featured as an Italian-American plumber on the run to defeat creatures together with his brother Luigi. The two are featured getting rid of the creatures coming from the sewers by kicking them. The objective is to eliminate the enemies by phases by running and jumping through the sewers. Each stage has pipes and an object referred to as POW block. Defeating multiple enemies earns the gamer points. The player is also allowed to take part in the bonus round for more points.

Conclusion

Some of the most known franchises in Japan are hardly popular in other parts of the world, especially the west. For instance, Monster Hunter is not known by many people outside of Japan. However, some games like Final Fantasy are very popular all across the globe. Japanese developers, particularly Nintendo, have been on the record for top productions, and clearly, they are not slowing down by any means. With these popular games, gamers should begin warming up for a marathon to learn a new culture and get unique experience.
