Why was Maulana Samiul Haq’s murdered?

Late Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam-Sami (JUI-S) leader Maulana Samiul Haq’s secretary Syed Ahmed Shah has been missing from his house in Akora Khattak. His family claims he was picked up by the law enforcement agencies while the police deny they have him in their custody.

Mr Shah is said to have discovered Maulana Samiul Haq’s body. The late JUI-S leader was stabbed in his bedroom in a Safari Villa in Bahria Town in Nov 2. Doctors said the former senator had died an hour before he was brought to the hospital.

Maulana Hamidul Haq has reportedly stated that Afghan intelligence agency was behind his father’s murder.

Syed Ahmed Shah was also the first to inform Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, the son of Maulana Samiul Haq, of his father’s death. He has not been heard of since last Friday and no one is sure about his fate.

Updates on the Murder Investigations

The Rawalpindi police have collected the fingerprints of three separate individuals and a bloodstained shirt from the scene of Maulana Samiul Haq’s murder. The police was unable to establish who hung the shirt in the bathroom, from where it was recovered, and are waiting for a forensic laboratory report that they believe will help them solve the murder case.

Police are also using mobile data of the slained JUI-S leader to ascertain who contacted Maulana days and hours before his murder. An investigating police officer said the complainant may nominate someone, as the investigation into murder cases is launched after the forensic laboratory’s report.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami has demanded of the government and security agencies to trace the killers of Maulana Samiul Haq and award them exemplary punishment. The demand was made during an emergency meeting of the executive committee of JUI-S held in Akora Kahttak last Monday.

Maulana Samiul Haq’s secretary Syed Ahmed Shah has been missing from his house in Akora Khattak for the last three or four days.

The central leaders of JUI-S including Maulana Abdur Rauf Farooqi, Bashir Ahmad Shad, Syed Yousaf Shah, Shah Abdul Aziz, Maulana Abdul Khaliq, and Fehmul Hassan Tahnoli addressed a press conference after the meeting.

They announced that Maulana Hamidul Haq, the elder son of Maulana Samiul Haq, was appointed the acting chief of JUI-S. They said that JUI-S would continue its struggle for implementation of Islamic system in the country.

The JUI-S leaders said that Maulana Samiul Haq was killed by the enemies of Pakistan as they wanted to create law and order situation in the country. Investigations of the murder of the slain JUI-S leader have failed to make any headway as police has so far been unable to get crucial leads which may determine who the murderers were.

CCTV footage from the surroundings of Maulana Sami’s residence in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi was not enough to identify the culprits. Maulana Hamidul Haq has reportedly stated that Afghan intelligence agency was behind his father’s murder.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami has demanded of the government and security agencies to trace the killers of Maulana Samiul Haq and award them exemplary punishment.

Son of Gen. Hameed Gul who himself was attacked on Islamabad Expressway the same day Maulana Sami was assassinated has categorically stated CIA was behind the attack on him and the murder of Maulana Sami. However, these assertions could not be verified by independent sources.

Certain sections of media have also indicated that Indian Intelligence Agency RAW might also be behind the assassination of Maulana Samiul Haq since RAW is working hand in hand with NDS to destabilize Pakistan.

However, Punjab Information Minster Fayyazul Hassan Chohan while talking to the media stated that the evidence from the crime scene indicates that this assassination might be due to personal grudges or family feud and not something more sinister.

However, all these claims cannot be verified independently. The only way to get to the masterminds of this heinous crime is to arrest those who killed Maulana in his home. The government must leave no stone unturned to make sure that the culprits are brought to justice.
