Pakistan People’s party celebrates its 50th Foundation Day

News Desk |

Pakistan People’s party (PPP) is celebrating its 50th anniversary today. The party workers along with the party leaders are celebrating the party’s golden jubilee across the country. PPP has arranged week long ceremonies to mark the occasion. The occasion is celebrated at more than hundred district headquarters of the country today.

Different events are held to celebrate the Foundation Day of the left-wing, socialist-progressive political party. Today, PPP’s co-chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari hoists the PPP flag ceremony at Bilawal House to mark the party’s Foundation Day. He reminded his countrymen and party workers regarding the sacrifices and accomplishments of the party for the sake of ideology.

The problems lies in the fact that PPP continues to demonstrate and advertise its election campaigns on achievements of the distant past but fails to exemplify its last tenure or incumbent government in Sindh.

Moreover, party’s co-chairperson recapped the party’s belief in a peaceful settlement of matters. Referring to the role of his party’s peaceful arrangements/settlements with India, Zardari pointed that in 1970’s it was the charismatic Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who signed an agreement with Indian leader Indira Gandhi to reverse the consequences of the 1971 war and to ensure the settlement through bilateral negotiations between the neighbours at war.

On 29th November, PPP leader Samina Khalid Ghurki had organised a ceremony for female workers of the party at her residence. Prominent female members of the party such as Bushra Aitezaz, Jahan Ara Wattoo and many other party workers participated in the meeting and showed commitment to continue to serve Pakistan according to the vision of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

On Wednesday, PPP’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a message to his party workers stressed on the renewal of their commitment to carry forward the mission of the party to the next generations of Pakistan with zeal and vigour. Bilawal said he was proud of the party’s sacrifices, its history and the achievements since its inception 50 years ago.

The party’s leadership has decided to hold a public meeting in Islamabad’s Parade Ground on December 5th to celebrate the golden jubilee with its workers from all around the country.

He remarked, “We lost our two chairpersons Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and thousands of workers during the five decade long struggle for the democratic rights of the down-trodden people.”  He also praised the party workers and pointed out the unmatched struggle, and sacrifice of the party despite undergoing ruthless and harsh treatment at the hands of the tormentors.

In a series of tweets, he addressed his party workers and directed them to celebrate the party’s Foundation Day across

PPP’s local administrations have formulated a plan to pay tributes to its fallen heroes and those party workers which continue to struggle for the betterment of the country.

The party’s leadership has decided to hold a public meeting in Islamabad’s Parade Ground on December 5th to celebrate the golden jubilee with its workers from all around the country. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will address the public gathering and is expected to announce the future plans and road map of the party for the next decades.

PPP has always positioned itself uniquely against all odds whether it was the onslaughts from dictators or the non-state actors. Historically, despite facing tremendous challenges against powerful dictators such as General Ayub Khan and later against General Zai ul Haq, PPP met the hostile environment with resolve and determination.

No one can deny the party’s struggle to restore and cherish the democratic setup in Pakistan. But, the problems lies in the fact that PPP continues to demonstrate and advertise its election campaigns on achievements of the distant past but fails to exemplify its last tenure or incumbent government in Sindh.

PPP apparently failed to transform the lives of the people of Pakistan. PPP credits itself for taking logical decisions to dismiss the threats from the establishment in its last tenure, but its 5-year rule proved an eye opener for the people of Pakistan. It’s dismissal governance, and poor economic performance prompted its legislative members to abandon the party for other potential winners.

PPP under Zardari miserably eluded its mission to make an economically stronger and egalitarian Pakistan. Was PPP able to decrease the growing disparity between the rich and the poor or did the middle class grow in its last rule? The credible efforts of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto will remain with the loyal supporters of PPP, but Zardari’s dismal performance as president of Pakistan and party chairperson and Bilawal’s lackluster personality have ruined the efforts of the deceased.

Bilawal can attack his opponents with high pitch speeches or may lay down a more effective roadmap for the future, but unless it does not transform the lives of people in Sindh, hollow promises may not be able to convince the masses in Islamabad or elsewhere.
