A criminal court in Kuwait has sentenced the Pakistani actor Farhan Al Ali for two years over an immoral video posted on his social media account reported Gulf News on Thursday.
The court also ordered Al Ali to pay a fine of 1000 dinar. He will be deported after serving his jail term. According to the reports, Al Ali has appeared several TV serials and stage shows. The Kuwaiti criminal court had penalized Al Ali after he appeared naked in a video on his Snapchat account. Al Ali maintained that his account had been hacked at that time.

But according to the publication, Al Bawaba, the incident happened two months back in July. It added that the controversial video of Al Ali showing his genitals sparked outrage in Kuwait as many social media activists called for his arrest and deportation.

They demanded the authorities take appropriate action against him. Meanwhile, Al Ali in his defended himself by saying that”I am sorry, you have the right to b angry at me. I am sorry my account was hacked. Someone hacked my account and I am very, very sorry to you.” He admitted that he was in the video but he did not intend to publicize it and circulate on social media.

Following the backlash, the Kuwaiti Public Prosecution had ordered his imprisonment for 21 days.

Kuwait has strict laws on indecency and debauchery. The state has been implementing laws strictly. Back in 2012, the government has urged its citizens to abide by the moral laws when visiting beaches. The warned that acts of indecency, ever wearing bikinis amounts to flouting the moral standards of the society. Under Kuwait’s law policemen are in charge of monitoring public places and not private places. In case of violation, the accused are even asked to pay heavy fines.
