On Tuesday, British High Commissioner Christian Turner informed that a Pakistani company has sold 9.3 million pairs of jeans in the UK in 2019.
High Commissioner, Turner, tweeted the pictures of stitching and preparation of jeans in the company. He wrote, “9.3 million pairs of jeans sold to market in 2019; 30m worldwide. Fantastic to visit US Group, an exemplar for export-led growth & sustainability.”
According to the reports, a Pakistani textile mill called the US Group has made the record sale of fabric worldwide in 2019.
The company is based in Lahore and has been in the business since the mid-1980s. The textile mill makes denim jeans. US Group is categorized as Pakistan’s top exporters of denim in the country.

Turner believes other companies can expand their exports in the West by following the business models set by US Groups.

Meanwhile, the textile sector has grown exponentially since last year, attributed partially to the lockdowns in European countries which lead to the shutdown of businesses, hence, reduced competition.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood has assured that the problems of the textile sector would be raised with PM Khan and the federal cabinet in a virtual meeting earlier this month.
During the meeting, the advisor said that the government would try to resolve the problems that the textile industry has been facing.
Associations representing the textile industry asked Mr. Dawood to abolish all taxes and duties using the presidential ordinance and permit the duty-free import of cotton yarn which is the primary raw material value-added textile industry.

The attendees also requested the government to ban the export of cotton yarn of 30 single or below count till June 2021 to guarantee the availability of standard yarn to the export sector so that the orders are completed without any inconvenience.
