Statements of Pakistani education activist, Malala’s question on getting married has baffled Pakistanis and prompted a debate on social media regarding the merits and credibility of the institution of marriage.
She passed a few confusing statements on marriage when asked about her plans, love, and marriage in her latest interview with the fashion magazine, British Vogue.

“I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?” said Malala Yousafzai in her interview with British Vogue Magazine.

She said that her friends are finding partners and sharing their stories on social media but she is not sure what she wants. “You know, on social media, everyone’s sharing their relationship stories, and you get worried…If you can trust someone or not, [and] how can you be sure.”
Malala’s parents had an “arranged love marriage” but she isn’t sure if marriage is for her. “My mum is like, ‘Don’t you dare say anything like that! You have to get married, marriage is beautiful,” said Malala.
These remarks caused a frenzy on social media and have left Twitter divided. Some supported her saying that she is as confused as any young person of her age at 23. Others added that she has not stopped people from marrying.

Another group schooled Malala Yousafzai on the importance and significance of marriage in Islam. They quoted the concept of marriage in Islam has been promoted in the religion. Some asked her if she is vouching for a living relationship and argued that why Islam has discouraged such forms of relationships.
