Punjab ACE seeks record of lands owned by ex-DG ISI Faiz Hameed’s brother

The records were needed for ongoing assets beyond means inquiry against Najaf Hameed.

Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has launched an inquiry against the brother of former Inter-Services Intelligence chief, Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed.

According to the details, the anti-graft body wrote a letter to the Rawalpindi and Chakwal deputy commissioners for the land records of ex-DG ISI Faiz Hameed’s brother Najaf Hameed claiming that he had “superseded several seniors for promotion to the Girdawar post and “accumulated assets beyond his own means”.

Furthermore, the letter stated that the records were needed for ongoing assets beyond means inquiry against Najaf Hameed, who had been suspended from the post of deputy tehsil dar.

In February, Finance Department Chakwal suspended ex-DG ISI Faiz Hameed’s brother Najaf Hameed as the Naib Tehsildar in Chakwal over the charges of misconduct. Besides Najaf Hameed, the commissioner also suspended eight “patwaris” and others officials over misconduct.

In March, the National Accountability Bureau Rawalpindi office received a file, containing complete details of General Faiz’s income tax record and a two-page complaint signed by some unknown locals from Chakwal, for initiation of inquiry against the ex-DG ISI.

DG NAB had considered the file and after consultation with his seniors, the case was returned with the direction that a formal request be made to the Bureau by the authorities concerned.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had also revealed that the investigation agencies were conducting an inquiry against former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed and the media would be duly updated on the progress of the case.

However, the interior minister did not disclose which government investigation agency was conducting an inquiry against the former ISI chief. He also did not specify what was being probed against the former DG ISI.

Pertinent to mention that Faiz Hameed has been the target of PML-N criticism. PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz often lashes out at Faiz Hameed in her rallies, accusing him of playing a role in destabilising the country by weakening the PML-N government for two years and supporting Imran Khan’s government for four years.
