Another historical romantic drama, Karan Johar’s film Takht stars bigwigs of Bollywood

Some of the biggest names in Bollywood are set to unite for an upcoming Karan Johar film that will leave you to star struck. DNA India recently revealed that the popular Indian director is developing a Mughal era film entitled Takht which will feature the star talents of Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt as well as actor Ranveer Singh.

The story of the movie will be an epic romance but also have a subplot about a sibling rivalry for which Vicky Khausal was cast. It is said that Ranbir Kapoor was initially considered for the role but after he rejected the role, other actors, including, Alia Bhatt’s Student of the Year alum Varun Dhawan, were considered.

The film’s supporting roles will be filled with big names like Anil Kapoor, Vicky Khaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Sri Devi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor. In a Twitter post, the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham director shared: “An incredible story embedded in history… An epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne… A story of a family, of ambition, of greed, of betrayal, of love & of succession… TAKHT is about WAR for LOVE….”

Not much else is known about the project but the film’s cast has already made this project a huge deal already. Alia Bhatt also shared the excitement on Twitter, naming the talented cast involved in Takht.

Recently it was said that Kareena Kapoor, who is coming on the heels of the highly successful Veere Di Wedding, has said to have increased her salary in Bollywood to match that of Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut. According to the source, Veere Di Wedding allowed her to go toe to toe with the top actresses right now in Indian cinema.

“Though Veere was a four-girl project, the film’s opening and initial footfalls can be credited to Kareena’s stardom. It is only fair that she capitalise on her star power, which is why she has increased her fee for the next few films. She apparently charged a ballpark figure of Rs 7 crore for Veere Di Wedding. Her upcoming films will have her quoting Rs 10 crore-plus, negotiable depending on the number of days she is required to work on the project and the value she is bringing to the table.” The source claimed.

Kareena Kapoor is set to appear next with Akshay Kumar in Good News. Another new film she is reportedly being a part of is the sequel to the 2007 Bollywood flick Life In a… Metro, where she will reunite with her Ki & Ka co-star Arjun Kapoor. Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh are also working on another upcoming film together apart from Takht, which will release next year. She is also set to star with boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor in Brahmastra and Kalank with Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt. Ranveer for his part will be starring in a biopic on cricketer Kapil Dev soon and working on a film called Temper with Sara Ali Khan.

Takht is set to be released sometime in 2020. Rumors state that the movie will be set on the relationship and war between Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb.
