Anti-Shehbaz Sharif posters on display in New York

Anti-Shehbaz Sharif posters have been put on display in the streets of New York. Videos of the posters are going viral on social media.

Posters against PML-N leader and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are on display in the streets of New York ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.

PM Shehbaz will attend the 77th UNGA session in New York on September 23 to give a key address on the challenges faced by Pakistan in the wake of the recent climate-induced catastrophic floods.

The prime minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, other members of the Cabinet, and senior officials.

As a result, anti-Shehbaz Sharif posters have been put on display in the streets of New York. The posters carry slogans against Shehbaz Sharif calling him a “thief” and “Cherry Blossom” – crass nicknames for the premier used by PTI and its supporters. Videos of the posters are going viral on social media.

In addition to the posters, PTI’s US Chapter will also hold a “peaceful protest” against Shehbaz Sharif and the PML-N government outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

“Shehbaz Sharif and his imported government do not represent us!” PTI USA tweeted while revealing details of the protest.

Imran Khan’s nicknames for his rivals

Pertinent to mention that PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan quite frequently comes up with names for his fellow politicians. From names like cherry blossom, kukri, diesel, and nani, Khan has repetitively used these names to demean his political rivals.

He named Shehbaz Sharif “Cherry Blossom” (which is a local shoe polish brand) referring to PML-N’s alleged appeasement of the United States and alleging that he polished the boots of the powerful stakeholders, a narrative on which PTI has centered its politics and frequently uses to promote an “independent foreign policy” for Pakistan.

On the other hand, name-calling is very common in Pakistani politics. PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif called Imran Khan a “psychopath.” She has also called Imran Khan a “fitna” (mischief-monger).
