Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, family test positive for COVID-19

Johnson was recently declared the highest-paid actor for the second year in a row and is expected to appear in two highly anticipated projects

In news that is quite upsetting to hear, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has tested positive for Covid-19. The actor, who has appeared in films like Jumanji and the Fast and Furious series, is known for being the strongest man in every room. However, in a video message, the actor recently disclosed that he and his family have been diagnosed with Covid 19.

In the brief video, he explained his condition. “I wanted to give you guys a little helpful update on things that have been going on on my end for the past two-and-a-half to three weeks now. So the update is this: my wife Lauren as well as my two baby girls and myself, we have all tested positive for COVID-19. I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me, too, personally as well.”

He talked about having faced many challenges in the past, including being broke, evicted and injured and yet Covid-19 was an altogether different beast. What was the most damning thin about the virus was how it didn’t spare his wife and kids.

“I wish it was only me who tested positive, but it wasn’t, it was my entire family, so this one was a real kick in the gut,” he said. “But I am happy to tell you guys that we as a family are good. We’re on the other end of it, we’re on the other side. We’re no longer contagious, and we are — thank God — we are healthy.”

Stricter quarantine going forward

This will no doubt come as a surprise to fans of the former wrestler turned actor, who was the vision of good health just this month when he was presenting at DC FanDome, a virtual convention in which the actor promoted his upcoming Black Adam film. From The Rock’s own words it seems like he is no longer contagious, which is a great sign of recovery but as the actor notes in his video, the journey was very arduous.

He explained the process of getting better, stating that it was much tougher on him and his wife than his children who recovered quickly from sore throats and now seem perfectly okay. He also stressed on the importance of isolating one’s own family from any others, shedding light on how they were infected by a family member.

“They are devastated by the way they were the ones who picked it up. They have no idea where they picked it up. They’re devastated that it led to them infecting our family,” he added, expressing the sentiment that after catching the virus, he has even shut down contact with anyone outside the immediate family because of the intense risk it poses.

One of the other things, he lamented on was how wearing masks had become politicized, particularly in the US where it had become a leftwing-rightwing issue rather than a basic human issue. “It has nothing to do with politics,” Johnson said. “Wear your mask. It is the right thing to do and it is the responsible thing to do… for your fellow human beings.”

The Rock was recently declared as the highest-paid actor for the second year in a row, and is expected to appear in two of the most highly anticipated projects: Netflix’s Red Notice with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, as well as DC’s Black Adam movie. Both are quite high profile releases and look to continue Johnson’s hot streak of Hollywood hits. With him and his family having recovered, it will be interesting to see if these projects are effected by the actor’s health.
