Elderly flood victim punished for speaking against PPP leaders?

PTI leaders shared the video and accused the "PPP mafia" of punishing the old man for "daring" to speak out against Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari.

A video is going viral on social media of an elderly flood victim allegedly being punished for speaking against top PPP leaders, including Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto and former President Asif Ali Zardari.

According to the details, a video collage of an old man is making the rounds on social media. In one scene an old man can be seen heavily criticizing PPP leaders for failing to help the flood victims in Sindh and lashing out at PPP’s over a decade-long rule. In the other video, the alleged old man is being severely beaten with a stick while begging for mercy.

PTI leaders shared the video and accused “PPP mafia” of punishing the old man for “daring” to speak out against Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari. The video is gaining a lot of attraction as it is being believed that the old man was punished after lashing out at the PPP leaders.

“The flood-affected elder made the mistake of raising his voice against the 14-year rule that occupied Sindh, so he had to suffer the punishment,” President Women Wing PTI and former Member of National Assembly Kanwal Shauzab said while sharing the video.

“This is the cruelty the PPP mafia indulges in, especially against the people in Sindh – be it a political opponent or others – who dare to criticize them. The old man criticized Bilawal and was punished for it. Absolutely shameful and condemnable. Dynastic mafia politics,” PTI leader and former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari said while retweeting the video.

Social media users condemned the incident and urged official authorities to look into the matter. Moreover, they heavily lambasted the PPP leaders for cruelty.

Interestingly, there were claims as well that the video is propaganda against PPP since the old men were different in the two videos.

PPP mafia

PPP has often been accused of being a “mafia”. Despite its ruling Sindh for 14 years, the province still remains in dilapidated condition, especially in the interior areas.

People in interior Sindh do not even have access to basic facilities like clean water and health and spend a greater part of their lives in extreme poverty.

The recent floods have exacerbated the situation. Reports emerged that PPP leaders were looting the relief goods sent for the flood victims, leading to protests. Videos of PPP leaders’ insensitivity towards the flood victims also made the rounds on social media.
