IG Islamabad apologizes to IHC for arresting Shireen Mazari

The Islamabad IG also said that he has initiated departmental action against the policemen who arrested Shireen Mazari.

Islamabad Inspector General (IG) Akbar Nasir Khan sought the apology of Islamabad High Court (IHC) over the arrest of former PTI leader Shireen Mazari against the court order

According to the details, the hearing was conducted by IHC Judge Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb in the case related to the contempt of court against IG Islamabad.

“I am ashamed and apologise over the impression of court order’s violation made in the case,” the Islamabad IG said. He said he had issued order to his office to avoid any such situation in the future. He ordered the police officers to fully implement the court orders, he said.

“I can’t think of any violation of any directive or order of the court. I have initiated departmental action against the policemen who arrested Shireen Mazari. A show-cause notice has been issued to the arresting police in-charge, constable and lady constable. Sub-Inspector Haider Ali, Constables Sohail Qureshi, Faisal and Waqas were included in the arrest team,” the Islamabad police chief replied.

On the other hand, he said before DC Rawalpindi’s MPO order, court order to stop arrest was not served on police. He said they were told about the order dated 17th May under MPO of DC Rawalpindi.

The IHC had earlier served contempt notice to the Islamabad IG Police in former PTI leader Shireen Mazari’s arrest case. She had moved IHC for contempt proceedings against her arrest despite securing bail from the Islamabad High Court. On May 22, former human rights minister Dr Shireen Mazari was taken into custody from outside Adiala jail for the fifth time in 12 days despite court orders for her release.

The court had nullified the second detention order issued against Mr Mazari under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). The next day, the IHC summoned the IG Islamabad in response to a petition seeking initiation of contempt of court proceeding against IG Khan.

Later on the same day, Dr Mazari addressing the media in which he announced that she was quitting the PTI. She said she was not only leaving the party but also active politics. She stated that her health and her daughter had both suffered extensively during her 12-day detention.
