Imran Khan calls in urgent PTI meeting over no-trust move

Senior PTI leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, and others will attend the meeting.

Political tensions are once again high in Punjab, as PDM has brought in a no-trust motion against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Punjab Assembly speaker, and deputy speaker.

According to the latest developments, PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has summoned an urgent meeting of senior PTI leadership at his Lahore’s Zaman Park residence.

Senior PTI leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, and others will attend the meeting called by Imran Khan. The meeting will discuss the no-trust motion submitted against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, PA speaker, and deputy speaker.

Earlier, a delegation of PPP and PML-N lawmakers submitted a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi in a bid to forestall the dissolution of the provincial assembly.

A separate no-trust motion was also submitted against PA Speaker Sibtain Khan and Deputy Speaker Wasiq Abbasi under Article 53 of the Constitution.

On the other hand, the resolution was immediately followed by an order from the Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman, directing the chief minister to seek a vote of confidence from the assembly on December 21 (tomorrow).

Deadlock between PTI and PML-Q?

PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan wants Punjab and KPK assemblies dissolved in a bid for early elections and announced 23rd December as the date for the dissolution of assemblies.

On the other hand, Parvez Elahi has opposed dissolving the assembly. He has suggested Imran Khan avoid haste in dissolving the assemblies as this would cause complications, and that the matter should be revisited later.

However, despite conveying reservations to PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Parvez Elahi has assured that he has always supported Imran Khan and will continue to do so.

Nevertheless, the no-trust motion against Parvez Elahi may be another political obstacle in the way of the PTI Chief’s plans. As per the law, such a resolution, once submitted, would bar the chief minister from dissolving the legislature until the motion is voted upon. However, it is pertinent to note that the PTI’s coalition still commands a majority in the province.
